Yangshuo Wargames

A brand new activity is the Yangshuo Wargames or Airsoft. Located just opposite of Moonhill in an abandoned school complex, the wargame is played in a secure environment. War game or Airsoft is a game based around combat. There are two teams and the aim is to eliminate opponents by hitting them with 6mm plastic balls launched from airsoft guns. Yangshuo wargames

When I entered the front door, I was quite knock out. Here I saw a few machineguns on display with all the equipment necessary to play. The Yangshuo Wargames are the only ones in Yangshuo and for good reasons. To play this game, military materials are needed and it is very difficult to get the license from the military for the guns.

The whole game is played in a secure area. During the game, staff is on sight to keep an eye to fair play and possible problems. But you will not just get a gun and begin. First you will get some shooting lessons and practice. And yes, if you are not interested in the game, but just want to do some shooting, that too is possible.

After the briefing about the rules of the game, and as far as I understood, the rules are strict, two teams are formed. It can be that the group is split in two, but some groups just want to fight an unknown group. If this is the case, either some of the staff or some guys from Yangshuo will join.

But first you need to learn to use the guns. There's a shooting range which, later this year (2009) will be extended with moving targets.

When the teams leave through the gates into the combat zone. The game is finished when one team has "killed" all of the other team. (see also our addition photo page to get an idea what it looks like)

Safety

"Safety is everything", Mr. Xiao Ma, the owner tells me. Therefore he has a wide range of army material available. There are bullet proof vests, helmets with face protection, army boots and, of course, army clothing in different colours so the teams can not mix up.

Mr. Xiao Ma, born in a military family has his game very well and very safe organized. He told us he intends to keep competitions in the near future. As the Yangshuo Wargame is only open since April 2009, he is still in the process of developing his game. But that said, the situation in the old school under the shadow of Moonhill, is breathtaking.

Yangshuo is a good occasion to try this sport, which is very popular in Asia. Interested in making a booking. It can be busy!
