Yangshuo Village Retreat

The Yangshuo Village Retreat is a new 4 star hotel in the Yangshuo area. The hotel opened doors in July 2011 in the Shi Ban Qiao Village, just north of Yangshuo town center.

While I was in Yangshuo in October and November 2011, I took the opportunity to visit the Yangshuo Village Retreat. And I was pleasantly surprised. This is a top notch hotel.

The village is still not much discovered by tourists. This makes the retreat an excellent place to stay if you want to stay outside the town center. The hotel offers spectacular views all over the valley and the karst mountains on the back. The best views however are from the rooftop and the top floor Superious Deluxe rooms (honeymoon suite, family chalet and luxury penthouse).

Downstairs is a restaurant offering western and Chinese cuisine. After meeting Trippers and a bit later his wife Jenny, we had a good lunch and Trippers showed me around.

The first floor offers the standard rooms. The standard room is already very stylish, come with flat screen TV, sitting area and everything you expect from a 4 star hotel

On the second floor you will find the Deluxe Suites. These 30 square meters rooms come with private balcony and all what you can expect from a 4 star hotel.

You have to like the Superiour rooms. I saw the Honeymoon suite which is a very stylish suite. Including private sauna! If you come with family you might like the family chalet or the luxury penthouse. These also have the best views over the valley. Of course all rooms have wide screen TV and wireless internet.

There can be little doubt the Yangshuo Valley Retreat is a far better choice than the 2 5 star hotels in town and considering price quality, I doubt you get it better for that price.

The retreat is for all kinds of travelers, from independent backpackers who want a splurge to families. Jenny and Trippers have themselves two children and are able to offer child care so parents can go out and explore Yangshuo.

The staff speaks excellent English and are happy to offer advice for day trips and bicycles are available for guest.

Getting There

If you first arrive in Yangshuo, you might want to use a taxi to the Yangshuo Village Retreat. Shi Ban Qiao Village is located in a valley just north of Yangshuo not far from the Li River (although this is not visible).

Route 1
Go to the jetty for the boats arrive from Guilin and go right (back to the riverside). Walk until you arrive at a junction and go left. Follow the road into the valley, about 100 meter further and keep left. After about 200 meters you will see Yangshuo Village Retreat.

Route 2
In Yangshuo, walk to the Yangshuo People's Hospital (Chengzong Rd)and continue. Pss the gate  and take the first junction to your right and continue until the next junction, Yangshuo Village Retreat is at your right hand.

The hotel is too far to walk but it's only 15 minutes on bicycle from the Yangshuo town center.
