Yangshuo Secret Garden Boutique Hotel

The Yangshuo Secret Garden Boutique Hotel is located in the Yulong valley about 7 km from Yangshuo town in Jiuxian Cun (village). The village is becoming rapidly a place for artists like owner Fengzi Ian (crazy Ian) himself. If you love to stay in a boutique hotel in a restored Qing/Ming village, this hotel should be your choice.

Yangshuo Village Retreat

It's July 2011 and I am just back home when a msg reaches me that a new has been opened in Yangshuo. I don't pay too much attention, after all, there are so many new hotels, why would this one need extra attention. Remember, the top end rooms have their own private sauna!

In October I am back in Yangshuo and visit the hotel: Yangshuo Village Retreat. It's an eye opener. Better than the 5 star Green Lotus, relaxter than the Sovereign and an atmosphere comparable to for example the Snow Lion Riverside Resort. It is the best option I have seen in town.

Yangdi Xingping river cruise

I've had bad luck when I did the Yangdi - Xingping river cruise with Jessie. It was wet, very misty and sometimes raining. But it was wonderful. I had done the Guilin-Yangshuo river cruise some years earlier but that was nothing (and trust me, at the time there were 3 boats or so a day) compared to this experience. There is truly magic on the water.

An alternative way to cycle from Yangshuo to Puyi

Quite a few visitors to Yangshuo will visit Puyi. For most of them it's the last stop of their canoeing adventure from Fuli to Puyi.

There are few who ever cycle there and most will cycle via Liugong. There is another way. It starts with taking the road to Fuli, followed by the direction Pingle and from there furter via Yangfenchang to Puyi. This is truly an amazing part of the Yangshuo countryside.

Guilin to Nanning using direction Liuzhou

Although Liuzhou has the name of the little brother of Guilin and Nanning is for most travelers only a stopover on their to or from Vietnam, on the way to Nanning there is more karst limestone beauty to find. For example taking the road in the direction to Liuzhou but go south in Toupai. Here's what you can find:

A couple of days Yangshuo

After a couple of days in Yangshuo it's clear again many things are changing. More hotels are being build but worst of all is the internet which is even more restricted than ever. Gmail hardly loads, only Chinese systems seem to work proper. Adding photos to an email can take up to 10 minutes per photo! Of course social media are absolute not available. BUT... the sceneries are still wonderful, see the cormorant fishing photo below I made at the Dragon Bridge

Get a bicycle from Guilin to Xingping

Back in Yangshuo. I arrived per bus in Guilin and started a little bicycle ride. I took the old and mostly forgotten road to Xingping following the east bank of the Li river, a road few people travel.

That said, there are some caves like the Crown Cave near Caoping travelers visit. Few however take the adventure to continue the road to Xingping and view the spectacular views as on the photo below

Exclusive Minority Tour in Guizhou- Travel the hard road in China

This minority tour is not available anywhere else. No one does it. We only offer it because we love it so much. To be honest, if you book this tour, it's a kind of holiday for us too. How does that sound?

I know, you look at the pictures and think... ah ... locals dressing up for the foreigners. Nope! The people here live their lives as they have been doing for hundreds of years. The modern world, sure, TV's, cellphones and trucks but no one messes around with their own clothes and their own traditions. That is what we offer in this tour. And as said, no other tourists come here, guaranteed.

Earlier this year in May I re-visited Sanjiang and Chengyang Chiao. It was my 3rd or 4th visit in over 10 years time. And although much had been changed, it was still beautiful, although it had been heavily commercialized. I still recommend to visit, it's so different from other places in China...

Plenty of good food in Yangshuo but where to find it?

There is plenty of good food in Yangshuo. Many travelers crave for western food, especially after eating so much Chinese food in China. Yangshuo is still the place. Here you find good western food and westernized Chinese food (ie chicken chop instead of chicken chunks). Here's my favorite restaurants.

Rong'an to Yongfu

Rong'an to Yongfu? Where's that? This is an article about a bicycle journey I did west of Guilin. You can reach Rong'an from Sanjiang. Guilin is located 155 km east of Rong'an. The road is seldom traveled by mainstream travelers.

I cycled it twice and it's beautiful, some areas have beautiful limestone areas and Sibing town (still 120km from Guilin) has potential to grow to the proportions of Yangshuo/Xingping. But not yet. So, if you can spare the time, take this road, it's especially interesting if you come from Sanjiang because you don't have to travel the same way back to Guilin as you came. Check it out.
