Yangshuo Secret Garden Boutique Hotel

If you are searching for a boutique hotel, the Yangshuo Secret Garden is an excellent choice. The hotel has opened doors in 2011. This is your chance to stay in a renovated and rebuild Qing/Ming Dynasty house but with all the comforts of the 21st century.

Yangshuo Secret Garden

I visited the Yangshuo Secret Garden in October 2011. It wasn't the first time I was in this area and I knew the owners South African Fengzi Ian (crazy Ian), Fay (local Yangshuo) and her British husband Ian (Lao Ying), so I wanted to see what they have been doing in the village. Their brand new boutique hotel was impressive. The renovation was done with respect for the history of the buildings.

Location

Yangshuo Secret Garden is located about 7-8 km out of Yangshuo town center in Jiuxian Cun (village). In fact it's closer to Baisha than to Yangshuo. The location couldn't be better, a few minutes walk from the Yulong river.

The hotel is also easy connected to the Baomao expressway to the Guilin airport and Guangzhou. A small road along the Yulong river connects directly to Yangshuo town center.

The boutique hotel

The idea of the hotel is to become an artist retreat in the near future. Ian himself is a painter and has a small exposition of his work in the reception building.

There are 5 houses, 2 of them are already in use: the Long House and the Courtyard House.

During the restoration process local skills and materials were used to preserve the buildings. The result is a renovated Qing/Ming house as close as it was when it was build on the outside but with all the comfort inside.

Staying in the Secret Garden is staying in a local village as the 5 houses are adjourning building. In the back you will have the karst limestone mountains, in front the padi fields and the Yulong River.

There are 5 houses available but much more is coming. The 2 houses at the moment available for rent are called the Long House and the Courtyard House.

The Long House contains the reception, exhibition areas and studio, as well as places for eating, drinking and relaxation including a terrace with views over the rooftops around you.

The Courtyard House contains 6 guest rooms in these buildings and each have their own special character. All rooms are air-conditioned and have modern western bathroom facilities.
