Thailand trip - My first trip to abroad, the 2nd part

By our Chinese local guide and tour operator Jessie Lu

Ao Nang

We checked in our hotel,
had lunch nearly by our hotel. We had some good Chinese food. But they served with a tiny little bowl of rice, for the girls from south of China, definitely not enough. Anyway, we had very icy mango drink.

After lunch, Jackie and me decided to find a cheaper place for the next two nights. We had been many to hotels and hostels to check the rooms and although many were good, we found them either full or too expensive. We went to this place called Green View Village, the rooms also expensive there, but the reception told us, they have bungalows which were cheaper though no hot water and no air-con, but with fan for only 500B. It was a nice hotel with a swimming pool and a nice restaurant as well. It is not as good as Aonang Garden Home, but it was clean and comfortable. We paid 1 day deposit for the reception.

So we solved our hotel problem for the next few days. I wanted to see the beach and as Jackie was tired and took a nap so I went on my own. I was very excited. I rent a Tuk Tuk to the beach, woooo… It's hard to describe my feeling in words. The sunlight on the sea water, it looked like the glittering gold, so beautiful. I wished I could touch the sea, looked so smooth.

I imagined if I could walk hand in hand with my lover on the white sand beach, smelled of the sea breeze to let my skin enjoy the sun. As you see, I had a very romantic moment:)

I saw many long tail boats on the beach, but I did not know what they were for. I walk all the way up to the end of the beach. It was so beautiful and nice, I bought a beer and drank it on the beach. It felt so relaxed and enjoyable. Now I really understand why have so many people like to travel and see beaches, this is wonderful life, especially after working hard the whole year. This felt so good.

Experiencing a Thai massage

Thailand is partly famous for its Thai massage. I had never tried it before. This night in Ao Nang I felt I wanted to experience this too. I walked all the way back. one way I visited one of the little street, massage ladies smiled to me, asked if I like massage or not.

I checked the time quite early, so I took a oil body massage. The lady asked me took off my clothes, but I did not understand why I need to take off the clothes for massage, anyway!! I followed what she told. She started put kind of oil on and massaged from food to legs and to my back, the oil made me felt very relaxed. But I did not know that she also massaged my breast, I jumped up, and was shouting at her, she was surprised from my action. She asked: “ what is wrong with you?” I answered: “ why you touch my breast.” Her face full of grievance, and told me that was just massage, I did not feel comfortable. Anyway, I still finished massage, was good though. It was cost me 200B for the massage.

A much better

Jackie was back late from the internet bar, we did not talk about our plans for the next day. I got up early again in the morning, it was about 7am. I went to the Garden hotel restaurant had Buffet breakfast. Jackie came when I was just about finish.

After breakfast, both of us felt so sick from the breakfast, Jackie vomited twice. I felt sick, but could not vomit out, I took some medicine I brought from China. We were both sick from the breakfast, so we did not do anything in the morning, checked out this hotel, we moved to Green view Village. We laid down in bed, thinking how we got sick. We finally came to the conclusion it must have been the milk, probably was over date.

Elephant riding

I booked afternoon Elephant ride to the jungle while Jackie took a Thai cooking class. That day I left the hotel at 1pm with a driver and the young girl, my guide, who spoke only a little bit English. After a drive we arrived in the jungle.

The green mountains and little streams with blue sky were very similar to Yangshuo. I saw the few huge elephants were eating Pineapple leaves, They looked like they had worked the whole morning and had a little time for lunch. To my surprise I was the only one guest there. I felt bad to disturb the elephants lunch, now because me, one of them have to work again. The elephant was quite gentle, he did not use his big feet to kick me. Lucky me! me and the elephant

I had to come up the second floor of the hut. The owner of this elephant ordered the elephant to come to the side of me and let me got on her back. I sat on the chair and off we went. It reminded me of when I was young when I was riding water buffaloes though with a chair

It was good ride in the jungle but timing was wrong: we were out in the heat of the day, the hottest time. Poor elephant was too hungry that even in the jungle did not forget to use his trunk to grab some bamboo leaves to feed himself.

We were riding about 1 hour. When we came back I bought a big bunch of banana to him. I had really enjoyed the ride and now I enjoyed myself with feeding the elephant with my bananas. I did not forget to give tips to the owner of that elephant. The tips made my story a little bit longer.

The guide dropped me off at my hotel, Jackie also came back quite early. She had good time at cooking school. Anyway both of us made us ourselves beautiful, wanted to take some beautiful photos on the beach.

We have good dinner together and then we got back hotel, I checked my wallet how much money I left, found out I missed 1000B. I started recall from the morning until afternoon, I only paid elephant trip 1000B. After that I did not use 1000B note. I thought the only place I made mistake was I gave the 100B tips to the the elephant trunk guide was actually 1000B. I was still not sure about that.

I made a phone call to the agent, if they could help me to ask the elephant guide or not, if I was really gave 1000B, I asked them please bring 900B back to me at next morning 8am. I didn’t put hope on it, I thought I could not get my money back. but out of my expect, next day morning at 8am, they brought 900B back to me. This happening taught me a good lesson: I should check the money every time I gave out. It also showed the local people are very honest and I am still thankful for the guide.
