This is one of those rides few people make. Most people I saw cycling were either cycling to Xingping and then take the bus back or the opposite way.
What few people don’t realise is that just before Xingping you can take an old road that leads all the way to Guilin. Admitted, it’s not the best road you will find but you don’t have to go too far too.
I’ve cycled this road twice, all the way to Guilin. But if you don’t want to do that, here’s are two interesting options.
Take the junction before Xingping and cycle for a few kilometers. You will come on an open area with padifields. Cycle as far as the bridge, it’s not far. You can have a great swim here.
And if you really want to push it further, cycle all the way to Caoping and cross the river to Yangdi town. It’s quite a few kilometers but it’s worth the effort.
And if you are really into a challenge, when you come back on the main road from Guilin to Yangshuo, take the junction in Baishe and cycle through the tea plantations back to Yangshuo.
If this is what you want to do, leave early as you will make a long day. But there are not many people ever doing it and it’s certainly worth the effort.
