Hi
Summertime has also arrived in Yangshuo. June is usually a month with quite
some rain but later in June and especially from July to mid October it will be
wonderful to be in Yangshuo. So it might be a good moment to book a tour for
Yangshuo should you come to China.
I've been out for a couple of weeks on the bicycle in Indonesia, hence the
newsletter had to be skipped for last month. More about that later in this
edition. As for now, what do we have for you this time?

Paradesa closes for the rest of this year
====================================
One of the oldest hotels in Yangshuo closes doors for a complete renovation.
Some would say: "It's time too". With a location as good as the Paradesa you
can't go wrong. We'll keep you informed when the hotel re-opens.
No need to sleep in the open air:) There are plenty of other excellent hotels in
and around town:

My favorite in town is still the Magnolia ==>>
http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/magnolia-hotel.html in Yangshuo town
center. However, if you want to stay outside the city center, there's no place
better then the Snow Lion Resort: ==>>

Guilin or Yangshuo
====================================
A while back I received an email from someone who asked me why I promote
Yangshuo while it is in fact Guilin that should be promoted. It's a general
misconception that the beautiful landscapes of which this part of China is
famous for is located in Guilin. While Guilin is certainly worth a day visit,
it's Yangshuo where it all happens. The misconception comes out of the days when
Yangshuo was only to be visited as a daytrip from Guilin.
Sure, Guilin has a few sights of itself but the scenic area is located 65 km
south of Guilin city. That said, Guilin is still for many people the entrance to
the limestone mountains. There's an airport and a bus and railway station with
excellent connections all over China and (for flights) even international
destinations.
Guilin is therefore still on the tourist map. Some travelers do not really
believe me and say, we stay in Guilin. Many change plans after one night there
by taking a river cruise to Yangshuo.
Next time when someone asks you where you are traveling to, just say Yangshuo,
65 km of Guilin which is maybe more famous but less impressive.

Just don't waste your time, and come direct to Yangshuo. Should you want to see
Guilin, do it as a day trip from Yangshuo. You will not regret it.

Jessie's Tours
====================================
While a the first leg of the high season has past and we're now in a relatively
quiet part of the year, we still have space in some of our tours. Jessie has her
3,4 and 5 day tours for you available. And trust me, they're special...

I can say Jessie does excellent tours, but why believe me? Here's some comments
from other travelers who did a tour with Jessie

Pudi School
====================================
The school in Pudi is still in need for donations. Roxanne donated $100, thank
you so much.
-
http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/pudi-school.html
It might be hard to believe in times where China seems to be so hard on the way
to become a modern country, a school in the middle of nowhere seems to be
forgotten. We can not let that happen!

Classroom in the school, with no descent chairs and no windows (in winter the temperature can easily drop to around 0C.

Your questions about Yangshuo/Guilin
====================================
We have set up a Yangshuo/Guilin Q&A in case you have a question we do not
answer on our website. As usual we do our best to answer within 24 hours. Can't
find your problem on the website? Ask us:
-
http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/ask-me.html
Some of the questions were important enough to give them some additional
attention.
-
http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/yangshuo-weather-question.html
Of course the weather situation is always an important issue. I remember very
well my first visit to Yangshuo and the 3 days pouring rain in mid March. Still
it was an excellent spend 3 days then in 1997.
Another question was about camping...
http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/camping-in-and-around-yangshuo.html
Possible? Allowed? Technically it's not allowed. And to be honest, in the direct
vicinity I wouldn't know where you could camp but if you travel a bit out...
sure...
Tom Synder came to Yangshuo with some serious physical problems ==>>
http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/tom-snyder.html
He went to see Dr. Lily who cured him.
http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/traditional-chinese-massage.html
I have to admit one thing about Dr. Lily, she has a saying: "no pain, no gain"
and I wonder sometimes if she means you need the pain to give here the
possibility to cure it or if she means that her cures go through a bit of pain.
Whatever the truth is, Dr. Lily is a first class TCM doctor and a good friend. I
bet Tom will agree with me.
