Yangshuo News, Issue #011: China Trains, rafting, lightshow and more April 20, 2009 |
| Hi Welcome to a new edition of the Yangshuo newsletter. It is already the 11th
edition of our Newsletter. The last weeks I have been busy with adding a set of
pages about the railway system in China. In the last year I got several queries
about when and where there are trains going. So, we filled in the requirements.
Happy reading!
Green lotus Hotel ==================================== Conveniently located in between West Street and the Liu Sanjie Lightshow theatre, the Green Lotus Hotel is a brand new 5 star hotel with all the comfort you would expect from a 5 star hotel. As one of the few hotels in Yangshuo, the Green Lotus Hotel has a big swimming pool, which, in summer will be great. Views from most of the hotel rooms are spectacular and Jessie and I thought we have to recommend it to you! - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/green-lotus-hotel.html ==================================== Jessie's tours ==================================== There are still some tours available for May although many dates are already filled in. If you consider coming to Yangshuo in May and want one of our tours, please make your booking quick to avoid disappointments. http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/yangshuo-tour.html ==================================== Trains in China ==================================== We got regular questions about train schedules, how to organize tickets and how long journeys take by train. So I decided it would be useful to have this information on the website. As the Chinese railway is extensive, it took me quite a bit of work to get some of the main tourist destination train schedules on the site. The trains in China page gives you all you need to know about the trains in China, their schedules and more. - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/trains-in-china.html ==================================== Chinese New Year in Penang Malaysia 2009 ==================================== While I was going through my photos, I realized I had not done anything with my photos and videos of the recent Chinese New Year in Penang. It was certainly not because I was not interested, on the contrary. The Chinese New Year festivities were a quite amazing experience. However, I simply didn't have the time (also due to my visit to Yangshuo for my http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com website). The photos were there, the videos were there, so I wrote a page and an additional photo page plus I uploaded several videos I made that day. The video of the little drummer boys was quite amazing! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXyU8f89DIw More about Chinese New Year Penang (including more videos) - http://www.bicycle-adventures.com/chinese-new-year-in-penang.html and more photos: - http://www.bicycle-adventures.com/chinese-new-year-photos.html ==================================== We like to hear from you ... ==================================== I can write a website full of information and I can think it is good and honest information. However, my reviews are my reviews, thus subjective. I try to be as honest as I can. Still, it's always better to get a second opinion, right? I like to hear them, other readers like to hear them too. For example, I like cycling, so I cycle a lot when I am inn Yangshuo. Personally I find it rewarding and I tell you about that on many pages. You may say that I am preoccupied with my views. Thus, the best recommendations come from other travelers. We like to hear from you, what you think of Yangshuo, what you did, where you stayed, what you have seen, whom you met, we want to know, other travelers want to know... - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/yangshuo-travel-stories.html#You Kevin Lapin wrote us a great review: - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/one-of-the-best-weekends-ever.html ==================================== Liu Sanjie Impressions lightshow ==================================== The Liu Sanjie Impressions lightshow is one thing you have to see when you visit Yangshuo. The show is mostly performed by locals and directed by the famous Zhang Yimou (remember the opening and closing ceremony of the Olympic Games?). In the high season the show is performed twice a night so you will have a chance to see it. What is the show about? It's a local folklore love story, read the whole story here - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/liu-sanjie-show.html - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/liu-sanjie-show-photos.html We can organize your tickets, click on the link below to make your booking: - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/ask-jessie.html ==================================== China Travel Guides and DVD's ==================================== China is a big country. Most travelers consider preparation with a decent travel guide book. It doesn't matter if you prefer Lonely Planet, Rough Guide or any other guide. Books or DVD, we have it. Check our EBay store for China books and DVD's. I promise you, it's much cheaper then buying it in your local bookstore! - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/yangshuo-books.html ==================================== Two nifty little tools ==================================== There are two nifty little tools added to the Yangshuo Travel Guide. The first one is a handy search tool for searching the Yangshuo Travel Guide website. Just type in your keyword and click on the Search This Site buutton. You will get results of the website plus 2 other websites where you can find useful info about Yangshuo. For the fans of Social Bookmarking, now you have your option to ad any page of the website easy to your favorite bookmarking system. I have added Facebook, MySpace, Stumbleupon, Delirious, Google, Yahoo Buzz and Technocrati. The tool is located at the top under the previous mentioned Search box for searching the Yangshuo Travel Guide website I hope you find them useful. ==================================== Rafting ==================================== We get sometimes questions if rafting is dangerous in Yangshuo. Rafting in Yangshuo is NOT wild water rafting. Rafting here means taking a raft with a couple of bamboo chairs and find the peace of the river, listening to the water and the wind and enjoy the scenery. This can be done in Yangshuo town at the Lijiang river. However, a much nicer, if not spectacular area is to fart all along the Yulong bridge to the Dragon bridge and from there cycle back to Yangshuo. Yes, you can take your bicycle on the raft too. - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/rafting.html =================================== Teaching in Yangshuo ==================================== Jeannie Hore informed of an error I made in the last e-zine. Jeannie is teaching at the Omeca school. If teaching is what you are looking for, the Omeca School is a good choice to teach. I did a few guest classes (if I can call them that way...) and it was good fun. Typically the classes are small which gives you a great interaction with the students. And students come from all over China. Interested in teaching in Yangshuo? Give Jeanie an email: jeaniehore46 AT gmail.com ----------------------------------------- |
