Yangshuo News, Issue #010: yangshuo, dr lily, 5 star teahouse, snow lion, tai chi videos and more March 24, 2009 |
| Hi We wish you a warm welcome to all our new readers and, of course to our old reader. The new Newsletter is mostly filled with new info I collected during my last visit to Yangshuo. It wasn't all an easy trip though. On arrival I got a serious cold, which was no surprise as I came from 32°C in 4°C. With help from Dr. Lily I was soon back to normal, well, a sort of. In the next 10 days I spend my time in visiting some places I didn't know or where I had to do some work. The weather was not kind but hey, it was still early spring.
Happy reading!
Green lotus Hotel ==================================== Conveniently located in between West Street and the Liu Sanjie Lightshow theater, the Green Lotus Hotel is a brand new 5 star hotel with all the comfort you would expect from a 5 star hotel. As one of the few hotels in Yangshuo, the Green Lotus Hotel has a big swimming pool which, in summer, will be great. Views from most of the hotel rooms are spectacular and Jessie and I thought we have to recommend it to you! - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/green-lotus-hotel.html ==================================== Jessie's tours ==================================== Talking about Jessie, we discussed her tours. In the next issue we will announce a brand new 8 days tour which Jessie is creating. The tour will more extensive explore the minority areas. To get an idea what the tour will include you can have a look at our Longsheng page: - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/rice-terraces.html http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/yangshuo-tour.html ==================================== 7 Star Teahouse ==================================== China and tea are almost inseparable. Yunnan might be one of the most famous areas for tea (Pu'er tea) but Yangshuo has it's own tea industry. North of Yangshuo town there are some tea plantations. The tea grown here is sold in the 7 Star Teahouse. I was fortunate enough to get a small lesson in traditional tea ceremonies from the 7 Star Teahouse owner Annie Zhou. She offered me some really nice green- and jasmine tea. And true, it did taste different from other tea I had tried elsewhere. Give Annie a visit when you are in Yangshuo: http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/teahouse-in-yangshuo.html ==================================== Dr. Lily, Traditional Chinese medicine practitioner in Yangshuo ==================================== How can I not mention Dr. Lily? Being sick on holiday is not my favorite way of spending time. After arrival in Yangshuo I caught a dry cough, so I decided Dr. Lily. She immediately told me I was very sick (I didn't feel very sick though) and she turned to be right. She advised me hot cupping. I thought it can not hurt, so Lily put about 50 of those hot bamboo cups on my back. Indeed later I felt a lot better. But the results of those cups where for many days visible on my back. Dr. Lily knows what she is talking about. She also gave me a bottle of herbal drink. It tasted horrible but it did work fine. Moral of the story? If you come in Yangshuo with problems, give Dr. Lily a visit. - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/traditional-chinese-massage.html ==================================== Tai Chi videos ==================================== Tai Chi teacher Luo Mei Juan asked me to make a few videos of her teaching at her Tai Chi school and a demonstration at the Li Jiang river bank. Here are two videos we did, the first in the school and the second at the river bank. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKzqtnht70 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yO5Mulm-KQ ==================================== ==================================== Malaysia does not have the name as a country for cyclists. In fact, many Malaysians find it weird to use a bicycle. Malaysia is a tropical country and in the heat you want some cooling. Bicycles
are for poor people and foreigners. However, it is changing a little. I see more people getting interested in cycling. And Malaysia has a lot to offer, especially on the bicycle. Many great destinations are not on the general tourist map and without your own transport some are not easy to reach. Jeanie Hore informed of an error I made in the last e-zine. Jeanie is teaching at the Omeca school. If teaching is what you are looking for, the Omeca School is a good choice to teach. I did a few guest classes (if I can call them that way...) and it was good fun. Typically the classes are small which gives you a great interaction with the students. And students come from all over China.
